BENZINA #1 Here's the first Lambretta we ever restored, a custom SX circa 1991. A veteran of many, many scooter rallies, we have recently treated her to a sympathetic overhaul, retaining many of her '90s era custom features including:

• original WCLW pipe w/ stainless skid plate
• original purple metal flake paint, which has been re-cleared
• original chrome plating, and
• stage-4 tuned Dave Webster/Malc Anderson-built MSC engine

All of the powder coating and plating on this '90s custom is original and is holding up well. The scooter shows beautifully, having been awarded Best Custom at Vancouver 1992, FIV Trophy Peoples Choice at Vancouver 1992 and Best Lambretta Series III at Amerivespa, 1993. The few flaws present are just a part of, and add to, the considerable history of this SX. BENZINA may have come a long way since 1991 but we have resisted the temptation to perfect or improve too much on this old gal during the re-build. She wears her scars with pride.

We think that the lasting quality of the original restoration says it all.

We at BENZINA always prefer new, old-stock Innocenti parts where available in the restoration of our Lambretta and Serveta scooters.

Working closely with local specialists, cadmium plating, chrome and paint finishes may also be used to return original equipment parts to serviceable condition where appropriate. We consider Casa Lambretta and MB Developments parts to be an acceptable substitute where original parts cannot be found.

Greetings from BENZINA. Summer is almost around the corner here in Canada — though it snowed yesterday! In warmer climes, the Capital City Scooter Club's Silver Anniversary Garden City Rally 2009 has come and gone. The 'official' start to the Canadian rally season gave us a chance to catch up with friends and customers from across the Pacific Northwest on a proper seaside bank-holiday run.

Back in the workshop, we are currently working on projects of all sorts on behalf of local area scooterists: from tune-ups and minor servicing to complete rebuilds. We recently returned from a tour of Germany's finer scooter shops with a selection of quality European spares for vespas, including many Piaggio/Gilera group factory parts and genuine Dellorto carburetor spares.

Further, our winter project, the BENZINA 'shop bike' is now complete, in top form, and you can witness the results here soon — watch this space as we ready a set of photographs taken in the scenic decay of Aylth. The early 1970s Serveta Li150 Special project bike has been sold on to a local club member, and he's well chuffed with his purchase! In its place we have recently acquired a 1960 Innocenti Li125 series II, missing a few bits but in very original condition. Negotiable for inclusion within the sale price are a number of additional original Innocenti factory spare parts including a set of genuine new old stock legshields! We hope to add more scooters for sale soon — please inquire.

Honestly, the website is coming — we promise!

In the meantime we wanted to leave you with an update — we've been very busy behind the scenes. As Christmas approaches, we've moved indoors by the fireside where we are currently working on some exciting new projects.

First, the shop bike. Okay, so it's not a Lambretta, but we think you're gonna like it anyway — think: dealer specials of the 1980's. Resurrected from the dead the frame and panelwork are now nearly ready for paint. Soon to be finished in Team Benzina colours and powered by a very 1980's-retro tuned engine; it's sure to be a crowd pleaser! Who knew 180cc's could be this much fun?

Secondly, we are always on the lookout for project bikes here at Benzina, and sometimes even we get lucky. We've just picked up a Spanish Li150 Special complete with Canadian documentation. This bike, and several selected others, are to be offered for sale. Look for photos and full details soon to follow.

Last, and certainly not least: following on from nearly six months of hectic scooter rally action, we now have the time to dedicate to the final assembly of our '65 Lambretta TV200. Everything that we've learned in more than twenty-five years of working on scooters has gone into this build. 'Time, trouble and money...' as the saying goes.

One further distraction, albeit a welcome one, has been the twenty-fifth anniversary of Calgary's oldest scooter club, The Jaguars. Formed in 1984, the club's twenty-fifth year will be celebrated with two new patches, and a website documenting the history, personalities and rallies over the last quarter century. Although the revamped club patch will remain a closely guarded secret until Christmas, the 'anniversary' patch is included, for your interest.
